Early-Season Lakeside Games

Jack's Lakeside season began with a doubleheader on May 15. He pitched in the second game, and went the full 7 innings in what wound up to be a tie.

In the third game against Diamond Jaxx, Jack played LF and got up at bat twice, flying out and getting hit by a pitch.

(Jack had a conflict for the fourth game, going to his Newport end-of-season banquet).

The next games were double-headers vs. Baden. Jack pitched the second game and got the win in a 7-6 victory. Jack threw 100 pitches over 6.1 innings, and also got to hit, singling up the middle and also flying out.

Through six games, Lakeside is 2-3-1.

Leaving for a Long Drive

In May, with Joseph starting a summer internship in Jackson, Michigan, he took the old Honda Civic so he would have a car there. Joseph and Mary Jo drove it out from Seattle, leaving at 6:30 on Thursday morning, and arriving in Jackson on Sunday morning - with stop overs in Montana, Minnesota, and Indiana.

Loading up the last of the belongings

Pulling out of the driveway. At this point the car has driven
a distance of 15 feet - just 12,476,625 more to go!

Boys in May 2018

It was a treat to have all three boys home for a few weeks while Joseph was between wrapping up his sophomore year and his summer internship. They've grown quite a bit since the blog has started!

Spring in Somerset

Flowers are blooming all around our house - Mary Jo has done great work planting flowers and the bushes are bursting with color! Even hummingbirds come by to take a look.

Felix vs. Ohtani

On Sunday May 6, Joseph, Henry, and Dad went to Safeco to see a much-anticipated pitching duel between Felix Hernandez and two-way Japanese sensation Shohei Ohtani.

Ohtani outpitched Felix, who gave up 5 runs before departing in the sixth, while Ohtani threw six shutout innings before giving up two runs and being taken out in the seventh. We had great seats - in the upper deck, but the first row, well down the RF line. The Angels won, 8-2.

Clear day and a great view of the skyline and Space Needle from our seats

More Kayaking ... Joseph & Dad

Another nice spring day in Seattle and with Joseph just home for a few weeks we went out onto Lake Washington in our kayaks. We had a nice trek not too far into the lake and tried to figure out where our house was (to no avail).

Our house is somewhere on that hill !

Last Newport Game vs. Garfield

The season sped by quickly, and before we knew it is was the final high school game of the year at Garfield. Jack pitched the final three innings, and came in with Newport trailing 8-6. He threw a 1-2-3 inning to start out, then Newport tied it. Jack then gave up 2 more to give Garfield the lead, but then shut them down for the next 2 innings, allowing Newport to tie the game and then take the lead in the 8th for their second consecutive extra inning victory!

Spring Views from the Deck

Lots of beautiful sunsets and clear view of the suncapped Olympics!

Thriller in Issaquah

Friday April 27, Jack got the start at Issaquah. It was a pitcher's duel, with Jack throwing into the 5th  inning and giving up 1 run and leaving with a 2-1 lead (one inherited runner scored to tie the game after Jack left). Newport and Issaquah remained tied 2-2 through regulation seven innings, and the game went to the twelfth before Newport scored 4 to take a 6-2 lead and then held it in the bottom of the twelfth. Most exciting game of the year so far!
