In February Henry had a band concert. This is his first year playing an instrument; he is playing the trumpet.

Skiing at Sun Peaks

On MLK weekend, we drove up to British Columbia to ski at Sun Peaks resort, just north of Kamloops. It's about 5.5 hours from Seattle; we drove part of the way on Friday night (making it to the town of Hope) and then rest of the drive Saturday morning.

The skiing was amazing and everyone had a great time. All the kids said it was the best place they'd every skied!

There were lots of runs, and plenty at just the right skill level for everyone in the family. We stayed in a condo that was "ski in-ski out", meaning we could just plan a run to end right at our condo, and then the next morning, ski out to get to a lift to start skiing again. We were able to be skiing by 8:30am - it was very quiet and peaceful on the runs - and pretty short lines (if any) to get on the lifts!

There was a main lift by our house; Henry, Mom, and Dad enjoyed skiing "Sticks" from that lift. There also were several lifts by the village, where we skied 5-Mile, Cowabunga, and Rambler (which led back to our house). Jack and Joseph were more adventurous and skied about 30 different runs, from green circles all the way up to five different black diamonds.

We skied Saturday, all day Sunday (except when some of us took a break to watch the Seahawks mount a huge comeback and beat the Packers in the NFC Championship - woo hoo!), and until around noon on Monday when we drove home.

It was a great weekend and we can't wait to go back again ... hopefully next winter!

Skiing in Whistler

On the Sunday after Christmas we went up to Whistler for a quick overnight trip, including a solid day on the slopes. It was a very sunny though cold day - temperatures were about 15-degrees at the bottom of the mountain, and certainly colder the higher up you go. It was pretty crowded, but we got in a lot of skiing. The mountain is so much bigger with so many more runs than we can get in Washington. Joseph and Jack skied a really long run from above the tree line all the way down to the bottom. The views were amazing.
