Maine Trip - Part 3 (Millinocket, New Hampshire, and Boston)

After Katahdin, we did another hike the following day and then drove through some other parts of New England before flying home. 

1. Gulf Hagas Rim - the "Grand Canyon of Maine"

Maine Trip - Part 2 (Katahdin !!)

In Maine, we climbed to the top of Mount Katahdin, the northern endpoint of the Appalachian Trail and one of the steepest and most difficult hikes we've done. It involved a steady rise through the forest, a long steep scramble through boulders, and a hike along the tableland before a final ascent to the summit of Baxter Peak. An amazing hike we all enjoyed, though were exhausted by!

Maine Trip - Part 1 (Kennebunkport + Acadia)

In mid-July, Margaret came to visit and stay with Mary Jo, which gave John the opportunity to take the boys on a summer vacation. We chose Maine, a part of the country they hadn't been before, and did hiking as well as other activities.

Highlights of the trip included:

1. Lobster Boat in Kennebunkport - we went out on a lobster boat with a captain and a marine biologist 

2. Lots of Lobster for dinners:

3. Beehive Trail in Acadia - climbing up iron rungs along the rockface

4. Six Summits Hike

Hike to six 'mountains' in the interior of Acadia National Park

 5. Bar Harbor Hotel 

6. Wonderland Trail on Mt Desert Island
