Capitola !

On October 31, Mary Jo and John flew down to San Francisco for Mary Jo's surgery. We spent the first night at the airport Grand Hyatt, and after a Covid test downtown on Monday, went down to Capitola, which would be our main base for the trip. We had dinner that night at a wonderful restaurant that you take a funicular down to, and also found a very nice bakery/deli with outstanding cookies (Florentines were the best!) and also take-home-to-heat-up dinners, which was perfect for our trip.

We went back up to San Francisco Tuesday night, and then Mary Jo's surgery in the Castro district went well on Wednesday. We were back down in Capitola on Thursday for a week-long recovery, with Joseph arriving on Saturday to break things up. Joseph and John took a hike on Saturday near Loma Prieta, which was the epicenter of the 1989 earthquake during the World Series. Joseph left on Sunday and we had three more days in the house, with lots of views out on the bay. It was a beautiful spot and perfect for our trip.

We headed back up to San Francisco for Mary Jo's follow-up appointment on Wednesday, where we got the great news that her pathology report indicated a complete response and no evidence of cancer. We flew back and were home by Wednesday night!

Parents Weekend in Boulder - 2021

In mid-October, John and Mary Jo travelled to Boulder to see Jack at Colorado. It was bright sunshine and a bit warm for the trip, with a hint of fall in the air every now and then. We saw Jack's apartment, walked around campus (including an architecture tour), had a session with the associate dean for Leeds Business School, and went out for a pair of nice dinners. We also went to the football game vs. Arizona, which Colorado cruised to a 34-0 victory, and also did a short hike at Chattaqua, on the west side of town. It was a very nice visit and a beautiful campus!

31st Anniversary Trip to Oregon

For our 31st wedding anniversary, John and Mary Jo returned to where they spent their 28th anniverary, at the Headlands Resort on the ocean at Pacific City, Oregon. We took an extra day this year, since the drive is a bit long (about 5 hours each direction), heading down on Thursday afternoon and returning Sunday morning. The weather was nice, as we were able to take several walks down the beach, though we only got one nice sunset. The views of Haystack Rock couldn't be beat!
