Hike to Mount Margaret

To prep for our upcoming trip to Maine, John, Jack, and Henry did a hike just across Snoqualmie Pass on the Fifht-of-July, up to Margaret Lake and Mount Margaret. It was the usual bumpy fire road to get there, and the first part of the hike just continued on a road. But then we wound through switchbacks up in the forest before emerging on some ridges with some good views. We took a spur trail to go straight down to the Lake, across many snow fields. And then back up again and continuing up to the peak, where there were great views of the immediate area and beyond. 

Fourth of July Weekend

The weather was beautiful for the holiday weekend - sunny and in the upper 70s/low 80s. We had a barbecue and played pickleball, and also did a few things out-and-about. John did a big bike ride around Camano Island on Friday; Mary Jo and John went up to the new Lodge at St. Edwards State Park on Saturday, Joyhn and Jack went kayaking through Mercer Slough, and we watched (far fewer than usual) fireworks from our deck on Sunday. John also made another Red-White-And-Blue dessert, the second annual one. 

Heat Record in Seattle

There had been three days over 100 degrees since they started tracking temperatures in Seattle in the 1890s. Until June 26-28, 2021, when ALL THREE of those days topped the 100 mark!

June Sunsets

As weather warmed up and some wispy clouds filled the horizon at sunset we were treated to some bright sunsets through the month of June.

Let's - Go - Islanders

Nassau Coliseum was rocking for what could have been the final Islander game ever. After a tense no-scoring first period, the Islanders scored three goals in the second to take a commanding lead. But the Lightning weren’t going to go down without a fight, and scored two quick goals in the third. They pulled their goalie for the final two minutes, and controlled the puck even after taking a penalty, with a furious segment over the final ten seconds – culminating in a backhand “spin-a-rama” which got past Varlamov – and was amazingly stopped by Ryan Pullock for an amazing ending to the game. The Coliseum was absolutely rocking – what a fun game!
