Joseph's Final Days of High School

"The days go slow, but the years go fast"

Joseph's last day of high school was June 10, 2016. He was an Interlake Saint for all four years of high school, after attending five schools previous to that (St. George Preschool, Fairview Elementary for grades K-2, White Oaks Elementary for grades 3-6, Tillicum Middle School for grade 7, Odle Middle School for grade 8).

Senior Prom

He had a quick series of festivities over his final days of high school. On Saturday, he took Irem to the Interlake Prom at the top of the Columbia Center. We hosted six seniors at our house for a pre-party and pictures.

Graduation

On Tuesday June 14, Joseph and his class graduated. The ceremony was held at night at the Alaska Airlines Arena (basketball arena on the campus of the University of Washington).

Family Celebration

On Thursday, the five of us went out for a celebratory dinner at the top of the Space Needle. The restaurant, one floor below the observation deck, spins around (relatively slowly, one revolution per 45 minutes). It was a nice sunny and clear night with great views.

Jack Shines in Centralia

The Memorial Day 2016 baseball tournament in Centralia featured an outstanding performance from Jack as he led the Warriors to a runner-up finish in the Silver (runners-up) bracket.

The Warriors played six games in the tournament. Pitchers are limited to eight innings pitched across the entire tournament.

In Game 1 on Saturday, Jack was the Starting Pitcher. He went three innings and gave up 1 unearned run. He also went 2 for 3 from the plate, including an RBI, in their 11-3 victory.

In Game 2, Jack also was the star of the game, walking three times, stealing a base, and scoring 2 of the Warriors 3 runs in their 7-3 loss.1

On Sunday, Game 3 was another loss for the Warriors, 13-7. Jack went 1 for 3 with a walk, scoring 2 runs. Jack was moved to the leadoff spot in Game 4, but didn't collect a hit in the Warriors 11-1 loss.

On Monday, Jack was the starting pitcher in Game 5. This was a tournament elimination game, with the winner moving on to the Silver Bracket Championship game and the loser going home. Jack pitched 5 shutout innings (at which point he reached his 8 inning limit) in a 7-0 victory over the Seattle City White team. Jack struck out 7 batters and gave up just four hits across the five innings. Jack also went 2 for 4 from the plate, plus a walk, scoring one of the runs.

Trip To Hood Canal

On the way to Jack's Memorial Day baseball tournament, Dad, Jack, and Henry took a day trip to the Hood Canal, a fjord on the Olympic Peninsula west of Seattle. We got to eat very fresh oysters, spend time on beaches skipping stones, and played a round of disc golf. We stayed at the Alderbook Hotel, a beautiful resort on the water.
