Ireland !!

In July we jetted off to Ireland for a week-and-a-half journey to travel around the country. We did a big circle, clockwise, starting and ending in Dublin.

Top activities (in chronological order):

1. Bus ride through downtown Dublin to see the main sites. Our hotel was very nice, and served a nice breakfast each of the two mornings we were there.

2. Train ride to Killarney. We did a great hike through the Gap of Dunloe up to the top of Struicin Mountain.

3. Exploring around ruins - Clonmacnoise (6th century monastery) on the River Shannon.

4. Bike Ride along the Great Western Greenway. We rented bikes in Newport and went out to Achill Island. Beautiful ride though it would have been prettier if the skies were blue. It rained quite hard for some of the ride.

5. Lots of exploring on the beach at Rathmullan. Rock climbing, digging in sand, collecting shells.

6. Walking the city walls of Derry.

7. Beautiful spot of Giant's Causeway, though crowded with tourists and, again, a bit rainy

8. More hide-and-seek among the ruins of a medieval abbey at Mellifont Abbey.

9. Long flights back to Seattle via JFK - almost 24 hours from start to finish.

Our top photos are here on Flickr, though a few highlights are below:

Stopping in New York On The Way To Ireland

On our way to Ireland we stopped in New York to see the family, as well as spend a day in NYC seeing 'immigrant sites': Ellis Island and the Tenement Museum.

You can see the top pictures here.

Top activities included:

Right after landing we got some New York-style pizza in Seaford and then went down to Jones Beach for some late afternoon boogie boarding.

Janet and family hosted a pool party for everyone, including lots of water basketball!

Our hotel in NYC was in Tribeca and had a Poke-stop right outside!

The boat ride to Ellis Island was beautiful and we got to see the entry hall and exhibits.

Henry and Dad's Kayak Adventure

On a Thursday in late June, Dad took a day off work and went up to North Cascades National Park with Henry to go kayaking. It's about two-and-a-half hours from our house. We had kayaked there last year, when we camped overnight as well - it's a beautiful spot with mountains surrounding the bright blue lake. It was very peaceful and we kayaked a long way to one end of the lake and into a small stream leading into the lake.
