In July we jetted off to Ireland for a week-and-a-half journey to travel around the country. We did a big circle, clockwise, starting and ending in Dublin.
Top activities (in chronological order):
1. Bus ride through downtown Dublin to see the main sites. Our hotel was very nice, and served a nice breakfast each of the two mornings we were there.
2. Train ride to Killarney. We did a great hike through the Gap of Dunloe up to the top of Struicin Mountain.
3. Exploring around ruins - Clonmacnoise (6th century monastery) on the River Shannon.
4. Bike Ride along the Great Western Greenway. We rented bikes in Newport and went out to Achill Island. Beautiful ride though it would have been prettier if the skies were blue. It rained quite hard for some of the ride.
5. Lots of exploring on the beach at Rathmullan. Rock climbing, digging in sand, collecting shells.
6. Walking the city walls of Derry.
7. Beautiful spot of Giant's Causeway, though crowded with tourists and, again, a bit rainy
8. More hide-and-seek among the ruins of a medieval abbey at Mellifont Abbey.
9. Long flights back to Seattle via JFK - almost 24 hours from start to finish.
