Jack's First Newport Games

Jack has played in five games so far, and has been the starting pitcher in three of them.

His last two games were both gems - he pitched complete games in each, giving up 2 runs in one of them (taking a hard-luck loss, since his team didn't score any runs) and giving up 1 run in the other game, leading Newport to their first victory, a 6-1 win over Bothell.

In the Bothell game, Jack didn't give up a hit until the third inning, and didn't give up a run until the team was up 4-0 in the fifth. It was the first game they got to play on the varsity field, a very nice turf field with a scoreboard and the all-time Newport High All-Stars highlighted on the outfield wall.

In each of these starts, Jack has thrown less than 75 pitches across seven innings, scattering a few hits and being backed by a strong defense. He walked only 2-3 people in total across the two games.

Here are some photos and videos from the games:

Last Ski Day of the Season

On Sunday March 19, Dad and Jack went up to Stevens Pass for the last ski day of the season. While the slopes will still be open for a few more weeks, we're ready to move on to other activities and the snow won't be quite as good as it is earlier in the season. All in all, at least one member of the family went skiing 27 days this season at 7 different resorts!

Dad and Joseph Go Snow-Shoeing

While Joseph was home from Michigan for Winter Break, he and Dad rented snow shoes and hiked around Blewett's Pass. While it was rainy in Seattle, at the pass it was clear sunny skies. The hike was along a ridge line with great views off into the heart of the Cascades and the Enchantments.

Henry Competes at Crystal Mountain

On Saturday, February 25, Henry competed in the IFSA Free Skiing Competition at Crystal Mountain. There were 22 skiiers in Henry's age group. Though this was just Henry's second time doing this, he finished 13th, just below the cut of the top 12 going on to day two.

Here's a video of his run:
