Heat Record in Seattle

There had been three days over 100 degrees since they started tracking temperatures in Seattle in the 1890s. Until June 26-28, 2021, when ALL THREE of those days topped the 100 mark!

June Sunsets

As weather warmed up and some wispy clouds filled the horizon at sunset we were treated to some bright sunsets through the month of June.

Let's - Go - Islanders

Nassau Coliseum was rocking for what could have been the final Islander game ever. After a tense no-scoring first period, the Islanders scored three goals in the second to take a commanding lead. But the Lightning weren’t going to go down without a fight, and scored two quick goals in the third. They pulled their goalie for the final two minutes, and controlled the puck even after taking a penalty, with a furious segment over the final ten seconds – culminating in a backhand “spin-a-rama” which got past Varlamov – and was amazingly stopped by Ryan Pullock for an amazing ending to the game. The Coliseum was absolutely rocking – what a fun game!

Quick Trip to Long Island

John took a super-quick trip to Long Island to attend one of the final Islander games at the Coliseum. He flew out on the red-eye Friday night, landing at 6am Saturday morning. After picking up a rental car, he drove to get bagels at A&S in Franklin Square, and from there went down to Jones Beach, where he sat on the beach for an hour or so. From there he drove up to Seaford and then up to Janet’s new apartment, where he met Janet, Mom, Meghan, and Tommy for a nice lunch at Skippers in downtown Northport. The kids peeled off then and then Janet, Mom, and John walked down the dock at Northport and then hung out at Janet’s apartment for a bit. Then it was getting to be gametime – and Janet and John got pizza at Taralos (comleting the hat trick of John’s ideal New York activities – bagels, berach, and pizza) and ‘tailgaaated’ in the Coliseum parking lot.

Day Trip to the Ocean

Thursday June 17 was a sunny day on the coast, so John took the day off work and went out with Mary Jo to Ocean Shores. It was a wonderful day – we drove down to Olympia the night before, and had dinner, to make it easier on Thursday, since John had one morning meeting he needed to “attend”, and then after having breakfast at a diner in Olympia, drove the remaining hour-and-a-half to the beach. We went for a long walk on the beach, had lunch, and played mini-golf, in which Mary Jo mounted a furious comeback from down 6-strokes on the last three holes to win. A glorious day!

Wildlife in Mercer Slough

On a nice Friday afternoon, John headed out of work early and kayaked in Mercer Slough. It was a beautiful afternoon, and empty - usually we kayak on weekends when there are several other boats in the water, this time there were none. Lots of ducks, birds, and other wildlife.
